Business on Top. Quarantine on the Bottom.

Business on Top. Quarantine on the Bottom.

Creatively keeping momentum moving forward even during a pandemic.

We are The Workmans! More specifically, Alex, Chelsea, Keegan, and Oliver Workman! We are a husband and wife creative team in Tallahassee, FL and in this crazy season, we really wanted to do something creative that could put smiles on peoples faces and “poke fun” at the strange times the world is living in and the adjustments everyone has had to make (without being disrespectful of the severity of this virus). So we came up with a concept…

COVIDwear. Business on the top. Quarantine on the bottom.

We created a series of portraits of people dressed in business wear from waist up and dressed for quarantine in PJs/workout clothes/loungewear/boxers on the bottom. Participants played up their character as much as they felt comfortable. We wanted to portray what’s probably happening out of the frame on a ZOOM call.

The Balance Beam of Female Entrepreneurship

The Balance Beam of Female Entrepreneurship

Danielle Irwin serves as a director, oceanographer and regulatory expert at Cummins Cederberg, a marine and coastal engineering firm. Previously, as owner-CEO of her own firm, DHF Consulting, Inc., she helped landowners navigate through the bureaucratic process of environmental resource permitting.

Female entrepreneurs often don’t receive enough recognition for the balancing act they must do in their lives as businesswomen, mothers, community advocates and more. The many roles they play become invisible in the public eye as they try to do it all. The type of support they tap into will often influence their level of success. Since selling her business in 2012, Danielle has utilized her skills and knowledge as a businesswoman and her entrepreneurial initiative to successfully open local offices for two Florida-based coastal engineering firms. Danielle has learned how to balance her life as a scientist, a mother, and a businesswoman. Join her for an open and honest discussion about female entrepreneurship, lessons learned, and finding the balance through it all.

Race, Gender & Inequality; The Role of Women in the Movement

Talethia Edwards is a local community activist. She joins us to lead a discussion on how race, gender and inequity are interlocked in the social constructs of our society. In addition to focusing on the importance of the Black Lives Matter movement, she'll also discuss #sayhername, an initiative to bring awareness to female victims of police brutality and anti-black violence. She will also discuss how as a sisterhood of women, we can together be on the front line of this important movement to bring about a better and more just society for all.

#SayHerName is a social movement that seeks to raise awareness for black female victims of police brutality and anti-black violence in the United States. #SayHerName aims to change the public perception that victims of police brutality and anti-Black violence are predominantly male by highlighting the gender-specific ways in which black women are disproportionately affected by fatal acts of racial injustice.

Leverages in Business: Unlocking Exponential Growth

Leverages in Business: Unlocking Exponential Growth

The topic discusses with examples the four (and more) leverages in business that enable companies to grow. Some of the leverages are well known like financial, or people. These are elements that people used for hundreds of years to grow companies. But they still might not unlock exponential growth yet.

More recently, leverages like media and technology, have enabled tech companies to grow exponentially and punch way above its original inputs. Think how Facebook can reach 3 billion users with only 50,000 employees, VS how American Airlines had 260 million passengers in 2019 with over 130,000 employees.

How to find and maximize the leverages to use in your business? How can you design services and products that have potential exponential growth?

Fifth National Small Business Town Hall

Fifth National Small Business Town Hall

Congress has struck a deal to replenish the emergency loans available to small business through the CARES Act. The bill infuses more aid into the economy, including $320 billion into the Paycheck Protection Program, which had run dry. It’s critical relief for small businesses who are struggling to find the resources they need to survive this economic pause. Where can small business owners turn for help? How should companies operate in this low-cash environment? And how and when should businesses plan for a return to work?

This Friday, April 24 at noon ET, Inc. and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce will join forces for a fifth virtual National Small Business Town Hall to help guide business owners through the resources available to them.

This event is part of Inc. and U.S. Chamber of Commerce National Small Business Town Hall Series
